Introduction

Cyclestheriids are small clam shrimp-like crustaceans closely related to cladocerans (Braband et al. 2002). Their valves are fattened, circular in profile, clear and with few (<5) growth lines. The body is short with only 16 segments, each with simlilar pair of foliaceous appendages. The telson is sclerified and dorsally adorned with strong spines and two strong claws.

The group contains just one species, the circumtropical Cyclestheria hislopi in the family Cyclestheriidae. The species has been well studied (Olesen et al., 1996; Martin et al., 2003).
