Etymology

"The species is named in honour of Max Gray, retired CSIRO taxonomist, co-author of the 'Flora of the A.C.T.' and an early collector of this species. During my career, Max has given me invaluable encouragement and inspiration. As a homophone, the name is also highly descriptive of the cladode colour and general appearance of B. grayi."
