Etymology

"The specific epithet refers to Dr William (Bill) R. Barker, former Chief Botanist of the State Herbarium of South Australia (AD), who has made significant contributions to Australian botany with studies of Australasian Scrophulariaceae and various other families. In the mid 1980's Dr. Barker provided the framework for the description of the current species by way of annotating the substantial AD collection of U. dichotoma, differentiating U. barkeri from the latter based mainly on the presence of 'medifixed' bracts."
