The type species of Dinophalus Prout, 1910 was given as Hypographa cyanorrhoea Lower, 1903 (but misspelled by Prout cyanorrhaea) by original designation. Prout (1934: 134) recognised that he had misidentified Lower's species and described the genus on specimens of Dinophalus idiocrana Turner, 1930. As a case of misidentified type species this should be dealt with by the International Commission of Zoological Nomenclature. In practice both species are currently placed in Dinophalus Prout)
