Introduction

The Nannastacidae are a family of 27 genera and 528 species world-wide. Eleven genera and 136 species are known from Australian waters, largely described by Petrescu (2006) (30 April 2025). The diagnosis was generated from a DELTA database created as part of Crustacea.net by L. Watling & S. Gerken in 2002 and held at the Australian Museum.

The monophyly of the family was confirmed by the phylogenetic analysis of Gerken et al. (2021).

Diagnosis

Males are indistinguishable from males of Bodotriidae.

Female. Antenna 2 minute, much smaller than antenna 1, peduncle with 2 articles. Mandibles truncate. Maxilliped 3 exopod present or absent. Pereopod 1 simple. Pereopod 3 exopod absent. Uropod endopod with 1 article. Telson not articulated, fused to last pleonite.
