Introduction
The monophyly of Sarsostraca is strongly supported by morpho¬logical data. Two orders are recognised, the fossil Lipostraca and extant Anostraca. Sarsostraca is defined by the following synapomorphies: stalked compound eyes; naupliar eye with three pigmented cups; trunk limbs with six endites; telson without a pair of dorsal setae; carapace absent; and presence of a ventral brood pouch (Rogers, 2024).
